According to a report in the Irish Field in November 2023, “The Fingal Harriers Hunt kicked off their season at the quaint thatched Man O War Bar and Restaurant…in the middle of North County Dublin market gardening country and the fishing harbours of Skerries and Balbriggan…It is also a regular stop for American and Canadian tourists arriving in Dublin Airport only 15 minutes away…” The supporter who alerted us to the Man O War told us that “this venue is well known as a start and end point for hunters in the Fingal region of North Dublin”. Fox hunting is (shamefully) still legal across the whole of Eire and Northern Ireland, and reports of fox hunts in the media aren’t shy about the details. We don’t suppose many American or Canadian tourists look at bloodbusiness.info yet (one day perhaps), but we wonder what tourists from the UK (who do) will make of the fact that the pub is so connected with wildlife abuse? The Irish Field goes on to point out that the local area is riven with hunts: “The area has a long tradition of horse breeding…there is a much earlier history of hunting in the area, and, today, the Fingals and the Ward Union Staghounds share much of the same country, especially on Saturdays, and the Louth and Meath Foxhounds also hunt parts of the country“
