“A quaint little rural pub near Bawtry, Doncaster, sat in half an acre of riverside gardens” according to its Facebook page, the King William Inn hit the headlines in 2017 when it decided to host the Grove and Rufford Hunt after the hunt was denied it’s usual venue in nearby Bawtry by the local council after witnesses saw a fox being killed. At the time the King William said they were ‘proud’ to announce the news but made clear they weren’t allowing a hunt on the land just hosting a meet. That’s naive and disingenuous at best. The Inn has continued to promote and facilitate the hunt through to the present day, including what the Grove and Rufford described on Facebook as ‘a second meet’ at the King William on Boxing Day 2024.
