“Surrounded by lakeside gardens this family run hotel is located only 1km from the historic island town of Enniskillen, County Fermanagh.” The Killyhevlin Hotel looks an attractive proposition (it’s apparently recognised as “one of the top Northern Ireland hotels with a reputation for excellence”), but local newspaper ‘Impartial Reporter’ carried the ‘news’ that Kellyhevlin was the venue for the Fermanagh Harriers Hunt Ball in February 2023. Balls are fundraisers – the Reporter acknowledging that “The stylish Hunt Ball is one of the main fundraising events for the Fermanagh Harriers – the oldest registered harrier pack in the British Isles” – and it’s fundraisers held at family-run hotels like this that allow hunts to carry on abusing wildlife. And in Northern Ireland where – shamefully – hunting with hounds is atill lawful, that can mean an awful lot of abuse and the Harriers can “thank local landowners and farmers for the use of their land for meets” without having to talk about non-existent ‘trail hunts’ or accidental kills.. The Reporter also noted that “Fermanagh Harriers member Sean McAloon – AKA Seany Mac – also entertained on the night” (perhaps he entertains through the sniggering his ridiculous ‘handle’ causes). It’s probably about time we started listing these shameless ‘entertainers’ who are prepared to turn up and perform at these fundraisers and support hunting…
