Here, the glorious open countryside stretches as far as the eye can see, offering a rare chance to connect with landscapes that feel timeless, untouched by the years…” Shooting websites are typically verbose things, aiming to stress how bloody great the people are, and how wonderful the scenery is, and how marvellous all the wildlife is – but rarely are they as self-indulgent and detached from the reality of shooting as Keilder Country Sport, who (as of October 2024) were advertising a 100 bird day Duck Shoot for £350 right below a paragraph that bangs on and on how “This area is also a haven for wildlife, including roe deer, badgers, pipistrelle bats, and an abundance of bird species, from small songbirds to majestic birds of prey…Kielder Country Sport is a place where nature truly comes to life.” Incredible stuff. The shoot also owns local pub The Black Bull, which it touts to shooters who come to make sure that nature truly is shot dead…
