As Gloucestershire Live reported in early 2022, “Newent’s International Birds of Prey Centre has closed its doors for the last time. Just a few years after Princess Anne caught an Abyssinian Owl to mark the 50th anniversary of the world-leading centre, founder Jemima Parry-Jones has shut down the visitor attraction.” No longer open to the public, the venue continues as a conference space, conducting research and taking in volunteers. And – it seems – regularly hosting the Cotswold Vale Farmers Hunt (aka the ‘Cotyvile’), which is based in Gotherington (around 25km to the east). Welsh Border Hunt Sabs found them at the Centre in September 2022, October 2023, and again in October 2024. We would like to ask the renowned International Center for Birds of Prey, the charity which still operates from this location, why are they allowing hunts to meet here – and if not, why have hunts met here in at least the last three years without them doing anything about it…
