“Hunts Farm Bed&breakfast…Relaxing accommodation in the heart of Exmoor…When walking or cycling, your trail will follow many of the North Devon or Somerset ancient paths…” We note ‘trail’ with a weary sigh…Yes, there is certainly plenty to enjoy in what should be one of the nation’s premier national parks, but as multiple listings on bloodbusiness prove this is a part of the country where barely a field isn’t hunted or shot over and is home to one of the nastiest hunts in the country (one we have covered many times on Protect the Wild): the violent and thoroughly unpleasant Quantock Staghounds (QSH). As North Dorset Hunt Sabs reported in late October 2024, the QSH met at Hunts Farm before setting off and illegally chasing a stag onto Haddon Hill, part of the national park, in front of horrified walkers, and killing the stag once they had their ‘sport’. The Hunts Farm website suggests that “lucky” visitors might get to see red deer “grazing or resting” – unlucky ones might get to see one chased for hours then shot at close range…
