Hunting Kind describes itself as “an organization using multiple strategies to restore hunting and hunters rights and freedoms. This includes a movement to legally recognize hunters as an ethnic group and bring hunters under the protections of anti discrimination laws.” Yes, this is the group that thinks that people who want the freedom to kill wildlife should have the same protected status as genuinely discriminated against minority groups, minorities who have been excluded, beaten up, deported, or even killed for being who they are and trying to live the lives they want (without killing wildlife) – the people the Equality Act was written for. No doubt Hunting Kind disagrees with Protect the Wild as much as we profoundly disagree with them, but they are spirited, writing (as they did in a Facebook post in September 2024) “In our hands NOW is the opportunity to decide whether 50,000 years of natural hunting history ends here, with YOU now. If our way of life and beliefs are to prevail…..we have to be ‘unconquerable’, Invictus.” Of course, it is nonsense to equate early man hunting for food with modern man hunting foxes for ‘sport’ and the tone of desperation reflects just how close to ending their ‘way of life’ really is. Unconquerable? As a retired soldier Hunting Kind’s Ed Swales will no doubt know that the Romans thought they were ‘invictus’, but where is the Roman Empire now…
