Honeymead Farm offers “two unique properties in the heart of Exmoor National Park on a private 1000 acre country estate” as holiday accommodation. The website talks lovingly about the local wildlife, including “our famous red deer”. Bear that possessive phrase in mind, because the properties are owned by the Waley-Cohen family. Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen is Chair of Trustees of the Badgworthy Land Company, which effectively decides precisely where the infamous stag hunts that spoil this part of the National Park can take place. Indeed, the estate hosts events for the notorious Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds (D&S), and anyone familiar with Simonsbath will recognise it as the location of the Exmoor Forest Inn (owned by the Greenall brothers, one of which, Edward enjoys hunting with the D&S) and the site where many exhausted Red Deer have been chased into the local river before being shot.
