“The shooting estate is heavily wooded, and currently has 14 pheasant drives and 11 Partridge Drives that offer a great deal of variety and can accommodate both novice guns and the most experienced looking for High Driven Pheasants…” Apparently “Kent’s best kept secret” – an odd claim to make considering its size, intensive rearing sheds, the award of a prize by shooting lobbyists GunsOnPegs in 2021, and the fact the shoot is splashed all over the internet – Holborough seems to sell itself as some sort of playground for bored Londoners, and hobbyists have been slaughtering pheasants and partridges here for over eighty years. As of writing (March 2025) the shoot is about to be auctioned as part of a ‘dispersal sale’ due to “retirement and change of management”. Will some syndicate buy the place and continue the killing, or will peace and quiet return to this blighted corner of Kent? We’re not banking on the latter, unfortunately…
