The hotel is listed on a number of shooting websites as offering shooting facilities (in a glowing review back in 2015 Shooting UK said “If like us you are at the Hartnoll Hotel for the shooting, every bedroom has a gun cabinet, and many are dog-friendly”), and from its own Menu under ‘Activities‘, squeezed in alongside Kayaking and balloon rides, the hotel pastes copy taken straight from M.J.R Sporting Agency (who “are able to provide the finest sporting on some of the premier shoots in Exmoor to the discerning sportsman & sportswoman alike.”) on the Cruwys Morchard shoot which is described as “famed for its high quality birds, deep valleys and sumptuous hospitality – regarded by many as one of the best pheasant shoots in Devon.” If we had a pound for every shoot describing itself as ‘one of the best’…
