“Hall Estate is located in the heart of North Devon…The stunning scenery of North Devon lends itself to horse riding…Hall mansion house is situated in Bishop’s Tawton on a south facing slope with splendid views overlooking the River Taw and surrounded by about 3,000 acres of land.” Devon, a mansion house, horse riding, and plenty of land? We have to be talking about hunting and/or shooting here surely…Of course we are. As Plymouth and West Devon Hunt Sabs reported Hall Estate hosted the Eggesford Hunt ‘Ladies Day’ in February 2025. The Hall then hosted what was (ironically, we suppose) an alcohol-fuelled ‘Gentleman’s Day’ in February 2026 for the Eggesford, which was advertised on the (private) Stevenstone & Torrington Farmers Hunt Facebook page. Ladies were apparently welcome at the latter as long as they “dressed in pink”. Hunting is nothing if not a mess of stereotypes and anachronisms. Pathetic, frankly…
