“An award-winning wedding venue in Kent, set in the heart of the countryside…This historic stately home…has a timeless charm. Its beautiful, award-winning gardens are among the best in Kent… Whether you’re here for an event or a quiet retreat, it’s a place to make lasting memories.” Goodnestone Park sounds like a lovely place, but it is owned by the Kent Hounds-supporting Julian Plumtre, the 22nd Lord FitzWalter. He hosted the hunt on another property in March 2025 when he was reminded by the West Kent Hunt Sabs that by “allowing illegal hunting on his land he is also committing a criminal offence!” Brides-to-be might ask whether those ‘lasting memories’ come with a tint of animal abuse? As the BBC might say, other wedding venues in Kent are available. It’s worth noting that the Fitzwalter Arms which also hosts the Kent Hounds, is literally a short walk from the Park – clearly this tiny part of Kent bucks the national trend of turning its back on fox hunting.
