“Glenisla Hotel has been a coaching inn since at least as far back as the early 1700s, at one time one of many scattered throughout the Angus Glens…This area of Angus holds many opportunities to take part in several wonderful activities and view beautiful sights.” The Angus Glens has indeed many ‘beautiful sights’ and is rich in wildlife – but non-native pheasants wouldn’t be the first thing to come to mind. Why use them in a header image for your website then? The Glens are an area blighted by the grouse moors (and raptor persecution), and the hotel seems determined to make sure it becomes the venue of choice for tourists looking to put holes into the local wildlife – highlighting in particular the Tulchan of Glenisla which offers driven days for “Grouse, Pheasant, Partridge and Blue Hares. Woodcock and Snipe can additionally be added on our walked up days… For the very fit guests we can also arrange walked up shooting for Ptarmigan. Our walked up days are a great chance to spend time with friends and family shooting in the scenery of the Grampian Mountains.” Spending time with the family now means spending time watching daddy kill Red listed (Woodcock and Ptarmigan) and Amber listed (Common Snipe) birds, and of course those non-native pheasants…marvellous.
