“Glen Dye is a magical place…world-class, original and beautiful holiday cabins and cottages in Scotland…surrounded by wilderness, forest and moorland on the banks of the River Dye.” On his rather lovely website, Charlie Gladstone tells the story of how he and partner Caroline have lovingly restored a place “on its knees, deep in debt and profoundly neglected.” In 2018 they launched Glen Dye Cabins & Cottages. The estate now sells numerous ‘experiences’, has a cafe and a private hire cinema, and looks like the perfect spot to visit. Glen Dye has a conservation project up and running, but, hang on, this is Scotland where estates routinely sell the local wildlife to shooters. There is no mention of shooting on the website (not even in the FAQs) – but there is plenty on the safe space website for the bird killing community GunsOnPegs: “Driven by a strong hospitality led ethos, we offer a warm, friendly welcome, and deliver some of the best shooting in the area.
