“Whether you’re looking for a relaxing break, base to explore the Yorkshire coast, North York Moors National Park, and surrounding countryside, or a unique venue to host a special occasion, Gisborough Hall’s peaceful location, quality food and attentive service will deliver a memorable experience.” For a swathe of people the North York Moors National Park has nothing to do with peace or the countryside, but is all about grouse and pheasant shooting instead. Killing birds doesn’t seem like something rational people (or a hotel staffed by presumably decent people) would celebrate, but then shooting isn’t rational so why not have a Ball in February 2025 to note the end of yet another bird shooting ‘season’? Tickets for this ‘event’ – priced at £60 – are being hawked online by Chloe Stonehouse, Gamekeepers Welfare Trust Fundraising Manager. North Yorkshire is one of the worst areas in England for crimes against birds of prey, crimes committed almost entirely by gamekeepers. We’ll pass, thanks…
