Gain Pet Foods (Co.Kilkenny)

Owned by Tirlán and Ireland’s largest animal nutrition producer, Gain says that “The feeds we produce contain all the minerals, vitamins and nutrients your animals need to maintain maximum health and achieve peak performance. Based on science, supported by technical expertise and driven by passion for excellence.” That’s all as it should be, but those fine (AI produced?) words are undermined by the fact that Gain were sponsors of a fundraising dog show run by the notorious Iveagh Fox Hounds. Anyone sponsoring the Iveagh will know that (shamefully) fox hunting is still legal across both Eire and Northern Ireland (online accounts of local hunts ripping up foxes make for truly disturbing reading). Unlike fellow retailers Pedro (which we’ve listed here), Gain aren’t denying their involvement – which would be difficult anyway as Gain were named on a Facebook post by the Iveagh thanking their sponsors and numerous photos (which the Iveagh asked everyone to share) show ‘proud’ participants clutching rosettes and bags of Gain-branded dog food.
