“Probably one of Suffolks [sic] best kept secrets. Right here you’ll find a friendly welcome at a quiet, well equipped and maintained grass airfield. Our aim is to make your visit an easy pleasure.” Ideal – if the owner supports hunting anyway – for a hunt meet then, though not so ‘secret’ because the South Norfolk Hunt Sabs know full well that Elmsett is a regular meet of the Essex and Suffolk Hunt – and indeed photographed them here again in December 2024. Interestingly the Airfield website suggests two local hotels for anyone looking for accommodation: The Bildeston Crown and The Lindsey Rose. Both pubs host the same hunt, which is unsurprising perhaps as both are operated by the Buckle family (and listed here on this website): James Buckle was a long-serving (now former as of the 2024/25 season) Master of the Essex & Suffolk Hunt, and the Lindsey Rose is run by his son Charles Buckle. The airport itself is just a few miles from the Buckle family home at Nedging Hall Estate. Those ‘Buckle country’ connections run deep…
