The Elk’s Head “is situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the foothills of the North Pennines on the edge of Whitfield village. Our riverside location is surrounded by beautiful woods in an idyllic upland valley. It is perfectly positioned to be your base to explore the North of England.” Actually what that means is the perfect base to shoot a whole pile of pheasants, Red-legged Partridges, and Red Grouse on the Whitefield Estate as the pub is part of the Whitefield Estate Partnership. Indeed a ‘good lunch’ at the Elk’s Head is included in the more expensive shooting packages available to buy through the estate.
