“The East Kent Ploughing Match is an annual event that has been running for nearly 80 years…the event not only draws tough competition between modern, old and horse-drawn ploughs, but is a fantastic outing and educational opportunity…in which prizes are awarded for skills in ploughing with tractors, vintage and horses, and also for excellence in crop husbandry.” So what is this doing on bloodbusiness, you might well ask? Because an event that is all about ploughing also features the Kent Hounds (who need the publicity as the ‘last hunt standing’ in Kent) and ‘terrier racing’ with the Ashford Valley Tickham Hunt – which disbanded in 2021 to be part of the merged hunts that became the Kent Hounds! Come for the ploughing, but please stay for the pitiful cries from yet another hunt desperate to be seen. Farming and hunting, hand in hand yet again…
