“The Dunraven is a stylish, luxury, family-run hotel situated in the heart of Adare, a picturesque and world renowned village in Co. Limerick…everything you need for your wedding day is within walking distance of the hotel”. And everything you need to spend a day killing foxes is at hand too. The Dunraven Arms Hotel is particularly proud of its antiquated and slavering support for fox hunting (which, shamefully, remains legal in the Republic of Ireland). Sickeningly, under ‘Equestrian Holidays & Horse Riding In Limerick Ireland‘, the Hotel states: “The Foxhunting Centre of Ireland. Fox-hunting is a particular speciality of the proprietors Louis & Hugh Murphy, they will personally book all hunts and horses….We offer early breakfast on request, valet service for hunting attire, storage of riding equipment and transport...” The Hotel regularly hosts the Limerick Foxhounds fundraising hunt ball (including in February 2025) and the Limerick Harriers. The hotel’s website provides a jaw-dropping list of local packs which include: County Limerick Foxhounds; Scarteen Hounds – Black & Tans; County Limerick Harriers; Golden Vale Hounds; The Galway Blazers; Stonehall Harriers; County Tipperary Foxhounds; County Clare Foxhounds; Duhallow Foxhounds. Hard to imagine there is any wildlife left in the area at all, but the pro-hunting Horse & Hound gleefully highlighted the plight of foxes during a “fast and furious” Limerick Foxhounds hunt in a tone-deaf January 2024 article. One of the foxes was killed in woodland, another was chased and “after a lively little scurry, hounds accounted for their fox in a brambly ditch”. A report in the Irish Field (7 December 2024) highlighted how foxes were terrorised by a pack of 35 dogs during a hunt. And that – potential guests may like to know – is of course the self-proclaimed “speciality of the proprietors Louis & Hugh Murphy“…
