According to Wikipedia, “The Beaufort Polo club was started by Captain Frank Henry in 1872. Players included members of the Duke of Beaufort’s Hunt, under the presidency of Henry Somerset, 9th Duke of Beaufort. It fell into abeyance in 1939…In 1977, Simon and Claire Tomlinson, of the Los Locos polo team, bought Down Farm and revived the club.”  With its long history of links to the nearby Beaufort Hunt (and its name), it’s little surprise perhaps that the club supports hunting. Cirencester Illegal Hunt Watch found the notorious Beaufort Hunt (the former hunt of choice of Charles and Camilla) meeting at the club in December 2024, saying “From the meet, they went straight into Charltondown Covert and stayed in there for ages trying to find foxes to chase. How boring for the paid up members waiting for the thrill of the chase, but having to stand around and chat for hours on end.”
