“Doddington Place is surrounded by wooded countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the North Downs…The gardens have been open in aid of the National Gardens Scheme for more than fifty years.” Wooded countryside, outstanding natural beauty, historic site – that of course sounds like the perfect place for a hunt meet? Maybe not to the vast majority of us, but someone obviously thought it was a good idea to allow the Kent Hounds in because as reported in November 2024 by East Kent Sabs there was a “token 2nd opening meet to appease old Ashford Valley Tickham supporters” at Doddington (the Kent Hounds were formed from the ashes of numerous local failing hunts). Hosting hunts is not what the National Gardens Scheme was set up for, surely…
