Cringletie is “an historic 28 acre estate comprising hotel, restaurant and gardens in the famously scenic Scottish Borders…we practice traditional hotelkeeping with an emphasis on fine food and friendly professional service.” It would be disappointing if there wasn’t ‘friendly professional service’, but not as disappointing as if, say, the hotel promoted killing wildlife – especially as it’s so keen to promote its one mile ‘Nature Trail‘…but, darn it, under ‘Activities’ is a section on ‘Shooting’ which says that “We can arrange archery, cross-bow, air rifle target and clay pigeon shooting on the estate. A range of game shooting, pheasant, grouse, wildfowl and deer stalking is available within easy reach of Cringletie” but contradicts that just underneath when describing ‘Rough Shooting’ saying “This involves one gamekeeper with a group working their way through the estate.” Not, presumably, using the beloved Nature Trail…
