Part of the Cumbrian Cottage Holidays business, Crag End Farm in Rogerscale, near Low Lorton, is located on a “28 acre fell farm with ancient Norman Roads to wander”. That ‘wander’ part is somewhat ironic given that Cumbrian Hunt Sabs found the notorious Melbreak Hounds – a foot pack that terrorises wild animals across this part of the Lake District – at a meet at Crag End Farm in December 2024. The sabs HIT report shows how many terriers this hunt takes out, and concludes saying that “…Time and time again he [Edward Liddle, the Melbreak’s long standing Huntsman] flouts the requests to stay off private land, National Trust, Forestry England land and nature reserves. The clock is ticking and their time is nearly up.” That time will hopefully be up much faster thanks to a coalition of local landowners who have come together and now banned hunts from a combined 2000 acres of land in their part of the Lakes…if Cumbria Police can make sure Liddle and his band of fox hunters respect the landowners’ wishes, of course.
