“Located on the outskirts of Barnstaple, North Devon, Coxleigh Barton is a stunning farm estate, which boasts a premier equestrian centre with superb facilities. It’s [sic] breathtaking far reaching views and close proximity to Barnstaple also makes it the perfect location to host weddings and other celebratory and sporting events.” This is one of the most hunted (and shot over) parts of England, so does this equestrian centre have any connections with fox hunting? Of course. On their website under Horse Holidays they they offer “Hunting”, saying “If you fancy a bit of adrenaline during your stay, why not come fox or stag hunting for the day? Hunting with hounds in Devon, whether over local countryside or over the vast expanse of Exmoor, is a unique and exhilerating [sic] experience for anyone interested in traditional country life.” Visitors are even pointed towards the barbaric and notoriously violent Devon & Somerset Staghounds. And as the ever-vigilant Great Torrington Events Safety Committee noted, Coxleigh Barton arranged a ‘fun ride’ fundraiser with the Dulverton West Foxhounds along a public beach. Mindful of the potentially poor publicity from a pack of hounds racing across the sand scaring walkers, the dogs were kept at the meet site, but were made available to “play with any family members” afterwards: as hunts are well aware, there really is nothing better for getting young people into hunting than letting them interact with hounds…
