Yet another North Yorkshire listing – a county blighted by raptor persecution and riddled with both local and visiting hunts. Constable Burton Hall is “A beautiful Grade I listed Georgian house set amongst extensive formal and woodland gardens in the heart of Wensleydale…We offer the opportunity for groups to have guided visits of the hall and gardens by prior arrangement only.” No problem with that prior arrangement if you’ve ganged together two of the north’s most notorious hunts. Working with Teesside Anti Blood Sports – TABS Geordie Hunt Sabs Calder Valley Hunt Saboteurs and West Yorkshire Hunt Saboteurs, the Newcastle Hunt Sabs found a joint meet of the Tynedale and Bedale Hunts at the Hall in February 2025. The sabs report that no wild animals were killed but ominously stated that the hunt “paused halfway through the day to box up a couple of their hounds, for no clear reason…We hope they will be okay, as hunts have a reputation for shooting their hounds when they get injured or start to slow down.” Something for Constable Burton Hall to think about before giving that ‘opportunity’ to hunts again…
