“Catherine Dwan provides a quality service to equine clients with almost 20 years of experience in equine practice. She graduated from University College Dublin in 1994 and apart from a year in general practice, she has specialised solely in equine work since.” Ms Dwan is a committee member of the Equine Group of Veterinary Ireland, and clearly has experience of working with horses. Sadly for those of us that are pro-wildlife, she also uses horses to hunt (and in Eire, hunting is still legal and means old-fashioned animal abuse). A 10 February 2023 report in the Irish Field stated that she was at a Kilkenny Foxhounds hunt: “Senior-master Dermot Dwan of Kellsgange Stud was out with his wife, the eminent veterinary surgeon Catherine (MRCVS). Catherine runs the highly regarded Cheval veterinary practice in Kellsgrange. Her practice colleague Rhona McKenzie, originally from Donegal, was also out on the day. The Dwans are a real proper hunting family. Their father Jack hunted every day God gave well into his 70s while their other brother Bill… is the joint-master of the Meaths.” The same report says that during the hunt, a fox was terrorised by the pack of hounds in woodland and another was hunted in a covert where he was marked to ground. So, yes, a great deal of old-fashioned animal abuse…
