An “amateur rugby played on sundays by a group of good freinds [sic] a social side where the apres rugby is as important as the game.” Rugby and booze go together like – well, hunting and booze, though the consequences of some mates getting oiled up and staying within a club’s boundary are vastly less dangerous than sozzled riders steering a ton of horseflesh along public roads as the likes of the Blackmore and Sparkford Vale (BSV) are wont to do. As the post from the wonderful North Dorset Hunt Sabs says, Castle Cary Rugby Club want nothing to with the BSV after a member of staff was assaulted at their Boxing Day meet in 2023 – which Butleigh club official will come to regret the shameful decision to allow this mob to meet on their ground we wonder. Oh, and the next time you play, lads, mind where you tread, eh…
