A partner garden of the Royal Horticultural Society and a member of Great British Gardens, “Batsford Arboretum is home to a unique collection of some of the world’s most beautiful and rare trees, shrubs and bamboos spread across 60 acres.” Public entry is ticketed (group rates for 20 or more people are £9.50 for adults and £3.00 for children) and Terms of Entry “(To ensure that all our visitors have a pleasurable visit and for your safety”) include dogs being kept on a short lead at all times. There are numerous signs in the area saying that horses must not be ridden (see attached image). So what on earth was the Heythrop Hunt (led by convicted criminal Chris Woodward) doing charging through the place in February 2025 as recorded by Cirencester Illegal Hunt Watch, why was the pony club attached to the hunt ignoring the ‘no horses’ signs, and why exactly do hunts imagine themselves to be exempt from the common decencies the rest of us observe…?
