“Experience the landscape of an estate working in harmony with nature…Where tradition meets progression…Where our heritage evolves along the passage of time to a sustainable future.” Far be it for us to question the ethics of the “custodians of the countryside” that run Barwhillanty, but when they highlight Yoga Retreats under an Experiences banner that reads “We welcome you to reconnect with nature, we invite you to discover our ethos” but just a few lines below that are selling Sporting Experiences that includes “driven or rough shooting, flighting or woodcock hunting” (a Red Listed species in the UK after suffering massive declines in population), we are almost duty bound to call ‘Bullshit’. The killing of local wildlife has become so ‘normalised’ that owners Maria and Oscar Yerburgh (who “aspire to be conservationists as much as we aspire to be sportsmen“) probably believe what they write, but – in our opinion anyway – they are wrong. Very, very wrong. And the highly irritating autoplay, looped muzak that accompanies pictures of men with guns definitely won’t change our minds on that…
