“Ballogie has stunning natural beauty, biodiverse habitats, and cultural heritage…Rest in our unique accommodation, plan your dream bespoke wedding at Ballogie House, explore the estate, enjoy fly fishing on the River Dee, and unwind over a specialty coffee or a leisurely lunch at the Potarch Café.” So many options. Sounds great, but like so many other venues in Scotland that find themselves in ‘stunning natural beauty’, Ballogie is also all about selling animals to tourists to kill – and let’s not call it ‘country sports’ or any such nonsense, the ‘shooting’ venues we list are selling live animals to people who come to kill them. And let’s be honest too, if you really care about wildlife and wild birds to read an evocative sentence like “Against the backdrop of the Cairngorm Mountains, catching sight of a covey of grouse while walking across dense, heather moorland, is a truly special, unique and rewarding experience” and have it immediately followed with “grouse shooting can be one of the most challenging, but rewarding of all field sports” is sickening. Celebrate the wild, then offer it up for money to be killed…welcome to the shooting industry and its empathy-deficient clients.
