“Bang in the middle of town, the Annandale Arms Hotel and Restaurant Moffat, has been the major local town centre hotel for over two hundred and sixty years…has a newly refurbished restaurant, and yet the hotel’s intimate atmosphere has been retained.” Sounds great. The Hotel even tells the visitor that “Dumfries and Galloway is ideal for winter wildlife breaks. It has an abundance of wildlife throughout the year but it is the winter months that things really hot up. The Solway Firth is the winter home of literally thousands of migrating birds.” That is so true, and how refreshing to find a Hotel that actually promotes the local wildlife…So, why is the Annandale Arms on this website? Because while it might take a bit of a dig to find (there is no obvious menu link anyway), disappointingly there is a page on Pheasant Shooting which states that “There are a number of excellent pheasant shoots in the Moffat area” and in a nakedly opportunistic grab for a slice of the shooting industry pie offers “a dinner bed and breakfast package that has proved very popular with shooting parties.”
