Back in November 2025, local press reported that “The 600-year-old Angel pub, in Lavenham” was on the market for £700,000, after it closed in February when “staff were left out of pocket to the tune of £23,000“. In late January 2026, Charles & Harriet Buckle announced on Instagram that they had acquired the pub and would be refurbishing it. Good news? That would depend on whether you think it’s good that yet another venue is now owned by Nedging Hall Estate and the Buckle family, who have close ties with the Essex and Suffolk Hunt. Monitors tell us that Charlie Buckle was out with the Essex and Suffolk on 24th January 2026 (in a Mauldons Brewery truck!). He already runs The Lindsey Rose where the hunt meets (another pub in the Estate’s extensive portfolio, The Bildeston Crown, also hosts the hunt) so it seems entirely likely that The Angel will become yet another hunt venue in a part of the country already referred to as ‘Buckleshire’…
