“Aldby Park is a stunning marquee wedding site based in the rolling North Yorkshire countryside…consists of a Georgian-listed family home that was built in 1726 and extensive grounds on which you can host your celebration… a great place for your drinks reception before your guests make their way to the main lawn…” Sounds lovely, but pro-wildlife activists and potential brides might like to know that Aldby Park is owned by George Winn-Darley – a recently-resigned former Director of grouse shooting lobbyists Moorlands Association (because of its numerous grouse moors North Yorkshire is renowned as the worst county for illegal persecution of birds of prey in England) and a very active member of the notorious Middleton Hunt. Aldby Park is a very regular meet of the Middleton, and well-known to sab and monitor groups in this blighted part of the country: groups including York Hunt Sabs, East Yorkshire Coast Hunt Sabs, West Yorkshire Hunt Sabs, Hull Wildlife Protectors, and York Anti-Hunt League have all had early starts at Aldby Park as the Middleton gear up for yet another day’s hunting. Killing foxes is not something the ‘wedding venue website’ makes any mention of, of course, as that’s probably not going to be good for business…
